John Stamos is arguing that his controversial visit to Mar-a-Lago over the weekend doesn’t mean he supports President Trump; it means he supports nurses, which, in his view, “isn’t political—it’s essential.” The Full House actor was pictured emceeing the Palm Beach Ray Of Hope gala, held at Trump’s infamous country club, which unsurprisingly upset some longtime fans. Today, however, he took to Instagram to explain that the “nonpartisan” event supports “The Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations, a 501(c)(3) organization that trains 350-400 nurses every year, directly addressing the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in Palm Beach County.” Per People, the event was also attended by Dancing With The Stars alums Artem Chigvintsev and Karina Smirnoff.

Nurses “are the people who care for us and our families when we need it most, and I believe we should show up for them with the same unwavering dedication they show up with every single day,” Stamos’ Instagram story continued. “I stand by the importance of healthcare, of service, and of investing in those who care for our communities.”

Stamos’ visit was particularly surprising to fans, as the actor has previously appeared to align himself with the Democratic party. In 2020, he posted a photo on X of himself with Joe Biden, congratulating the then-president on his “historic election win.” This November, while he admitted that he “rarely post[s] opinions on politics,” Stamos shared a lengthy message on social media that seemed to serve as an endorsement of Harris’ campaign. “It’s no secret who I will be casting my vote for,” he wrote, although he didn’t actually specify Harris’ name. “We need a leader who prioritizes unity and strives to bridge the divides that have deepened over the past years. My hope is that this election leads to a renewed focus on bringing people together, fostering dialogue, and seeking justice and equality for all.” He signed that post with a blue heart.

In today’s story, Stamos insisted that his “values and political views remain unchanged.” While he once again neglected to put an actual party name to those views, he also shared a donation link to a nonprofit called Democracy Forward, which describes itself as “a national legal organization that advances democracy and social progress through litigation, policy and public education, and regulatory engagement.” The organization has taken Trump to court “more than 100 times” since its founding in 2016, as it claims on its website. At least that will make things a bit awkward if Stamos ever makes a return trip to Mar-a-Lago.
