Johnny Depp is just going to make his own Don Quixote movie without Terry Gilliam
After a decade of attempts to get a Don Quixote film made with Terry Gilliam and Johnny Depp, Disney has at last hit on a workable equation: Subtracting Terry Gilliam and adding the "Johnny Depp plus spectacle" that equals a successful Disney film. Deadline reports that Depp's Infinitum Nihil production company has partnered with Disney to purchase, as one would expect, a "modern re-imagining" of Miguel de Cervantes' classic tale from co-writers Jeff Morris and Hot Tub Time Machine's Steve Pink. The news that Depp is also attached to star and Gore Verbinski is on board to direct is presumably forthcoming, followed by endless, thematically appropriate updates that the production is struggling against incredible odds, perhaps caused by Verbinski's insistence on building his own windmills.
