Jon Favreau and Adi Granov may finish their Iron Man comic, says artist

But not everyone has forgotten this incomplete Tony Stark joint. In fact, Marvel Comics could be planning to collect, or even complete, the nearly two-decades-old story in full at some point in the future, according to a cryptic Facebook post by Adi Granov, the artist behind Viva Las Vegas. Favreau personally tapped Granov to create keyframe artwork for the original Iron Man movie, in which Robert Downey, Jr. wore the Granov-designed iconic iron duds. The artist also illustrated the character’s Extremis arc, which became the basis for Iron Man 3.

On a post commenting on Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas, Granov replied, “Lots of talk about it this year.” It’s an off-the-cuff remark that parallels a recent, more wistful confession from Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort on the Word Balloon podcast, saying that the inability to close the Favreau/Granov mini remains “the sore spot in [his] history” and that he hopes its conclusion might happen one day. “You go long enough, everything kinda gets collected,” he told Word Balloon host John Siuntres in March. “So the hope is always there.”

Comic news site Popverse notes that, while there may be some internal interest at Marvel to light up Viva Las Vegas once more, wrangling Favreau and Granov to complete their story will be trickier than shorting the pot in your back alley Texas Hold-Em game. Favreau is co-directing Oswald, an animated hybrid series based on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and not that other Oswald you’re thinking of, while Granov is at work as a senior designer for an undisclosed Marvel Studios feature.
