Jorma Taccone is pretty sure there will be a MacGruber 2

Suggesting there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome with a little faith in your friends, plus a dash of spite and self-delusion, Jorma Taccone tells ScreenCrush, possibly sarcastically, that he is developing a MacGruber sequel with collaborators Will Forte and John Solomon, despite the original being a huge commercial failure. "Every time I hang out with Will, we talk about all our cool ideas for the sequel. We have the idea for it and we have a title, but I won’t tell you what it is," Taccone told the site of their plans, suggesting their meetings take place in a windowless room wallpapered with yellowing MacGruber posters and preview press clippings, with a calendar marking the date as perpetually May 20, 2010.

But then, it’s just that sort of blithe overconfidence and ragged, abused underdog-ness that's endeared MacGruber to its cult audience, who discovered thanks to its cable airings that it's a lot funnier than most gave it credit (which they still gave it more of than money). That small yet fervent cult following is apparently enough to make Taccone and Co. believe that a Christmas-themed follow-up—patterned after Taccone's self-proclaimed favorite movie, Die Hard—has a chance of getting made. "It would be a shame not to do another one," Taccone said, which is always a good strategy for selling things to studio executives: Appeal to their sense of shame.
