Nearly 20 years after Michael Mann’s Miami Vice baffled the country’s mojito skeptics, Universal Studios can hear a reboot calling in the air tonight. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is directing a new version of Miami Vice off a script by  Dan Gilroy, who directed Nightcrawler, a bunch of Andor episodes, and wrote The Fall. We presume Kosinski wants to strap an absurd number of cameras to those go-fast boats so the audience can really feel what a Miami cocaine deal is like. However, even with Kosinski’s knack for realism, we have a hard time imagining his movie being any more realistic than Mann’s film, which Jamie Foxx quit because there were simply too many shootings. Still, we’d be remiss if we didn’t use our platform to advocate for the return of Foxx and Colin Farrell as Tubbs and Crockett. The last thing we want is for Miami Vice to turn into the type of legacy sequel where Don Johnson hands the badge to his son Miles Teller. The Naked Gun trailer has put that trope to bed.
