Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan grapple with what comes next in new Josephine trailer

Sumerian Pictures has released a new, anxiety-riddled trailer for 2026 Sundance breakout Josephine from writer, producer, and director Beth de Araújo. The buzzy drama, starring Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan as parents of a young girl who witnesses a brutal assault (Mason Lily Reeves, in her acting debut), has received near-universal acclaim for its performances and its sense of tension and introspection, and scored  the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award earlier this year.

This new trailer certainly packs a dramatic punch, with its first stone-silent seconds showing little Josephine (Reeves) taking the stand to testify to what she saw as her parents, a judge, and a very kind-seeming counselor look on. Soon, the family’s story begins to take shape, as we see Damien (Tatum) take an active role in his daughter’s development, training her in the very park where she encounters the crime that ultimately sends her family into a tailspin. We also see Damien and Claire (Chan) grapple with Josephine’s immediate well-being and their family’s safety, all while images of the girl struggling to process the weight of what happened spill out in fragments. Here’s the logline:

JOSEPHINE follows the psychological fallout after eight-year-old Josephine (Reeves) witnesses a brutal crime in Golden Gate Park. As she acts out, her parents (Tatum and Chan) struggle with helping their daughter cope, while facing the moral responsibility of demanding justice in a world that’s lost its innocence.

Josephine, which The A.V. Club’s Film Editor Jacob Oller called “harrowing, critical, and undeniably powerful,” hits select theaters beginning on November 20 and goes nationwide December 4. You can watch the trailer below.
