Josh Brolin says Sicario 3 "is happening"

Last seen in 2018's Sicario: Day Of The Soladado, Brolin's character, Matt Graver, will return, maybe. Probably.

Josh Brolin says Sicario 3

The sun has not yet set on the Day of the Soldado. Per ScreenRant, Sicario star Josh Brolin confirms his time hunting and killing cartel members within the confines of the Taylor Sheridan Cinematic Universe is not over yet. Sicario 3 “is happening” and an updated path to the continued adventures of Matt Graver will be announced “soon.” Of course, this is something The Dog Stars star has hinted at in the past. Late last year, he told The Hollywood Reporter he keeps “hearing that it’s right around the corner,” following years of telling the press the film is being written and rewritten. Still, Brolin insisted, “When we do it, I don’t know when that is, but I know it’s there. So I’m excited about the prospect of it.”

In fact, the third movie has been in development since 2018, before the release of the first sequel, Day Of The Soladado, which was a big enough hit to warrant another trip to the border even without star Emily Blunt and director Denis Villeneuve. While the first movie received a rare “A” from The A.V. Club and landed at number six on our  Best of 2015 list, the “C-” sequel was a step down from its predecessor. Given how busy screenwriter Taylor Sheridan has become since that film bowed and his television and steakhouse empire took off, it’s hard to imagine Sicario rising back to the quality levels of its 2015 heyday, when the then-unknown Sheridan broke into the mainstream. We wouldn’t say his work has gotten better since 2016, when his brilliant Hell Or High Water script nabbed an Oscar nomination, but there is certainly a lot more of it.
