The as-yet untitled series, from creator Jesse McKeown, was first announced in February. The logline for the six-episode series reads, “When a mysterious sea creature terrorizes a remote Newfoundland town, a hard-bitten fisherman must fight to protect his family, his community and his vanishing way of life.” Not much to go on, but you can expect something creepy and unsettling, as the writers room includes veterans of mystery, thriller, paranoia, and science fiction tales. Per a previous Deadline report, McKeown, who served as an EP on The Umbrella Academy, is joined by Karen Walton (Orphan Black), Perry Chafe (St. Pierre) and Natty Zavitz (Edging), as well as EPs Chris Hatcher (The Madness) and Sharon Hall (The Expanse), plus Rhoades with her Black Mirror bona fides. Rhoades and Hartnett previously worked together on that show, ironically (for the purposes of this new collab) titled “Beyond The Sea.”
We’re currently in the middle of a Josh Hartnett-issance, as the star once known as Hollywood’s young heartthrob has recently had a successful run with Oppenheimer, The Bear, Trap, and this year’s Fight Or Flight. He’ll next be seen in the Colleen Hoover adaptation Verity opposite Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. Many (though not all) of these projects have tapped into a menacing edge that Hartnett rarely got to display during his teen idol days; this latest chapter of his career seems quite well suited to “hard-bitten fisherman.”
