Kanye West cancels Today Show appearance as Kanye-Bush-NBC tensions edge closer to the brink of mutually assured destruction
Whoever eventually writes the Seven Days In May-style exposition of the Kanye West/George W. Bush/Today Show fallout just got himself another chapter, as the U.S. is still unpacking a matryoshka doll of nested hurt feelings and massively bruised massive egos. Following an ambush by the Today Show’s Matt Lauer, when Lauer cunningly underscored Kanye’s apology to Bush with video of Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs—a disaster sandwich on hubris bread, like a double-exposed film of the Twin Towers falling overlaid with the Hindenburg disaster—Kanye declared that his scheduled Today Show performance for this morning was canceled, despite Lauer averring at the end of said interview that he would do it. As Kanye posted on his Twitter, which is his safe place:
“I'm not performing on the Today Show for obvious reasons. I'm so happy the world got to see just a small piece of 'the set up'. I blatantly said I'm not performing on a tweet and to everyone around me and the next day they still announced a performance. Do you guys see what I'm saying now… this is just a small slice of the day to day bullshit that goes on that helps to precipitate the idea that I such an asshole…. cause when I don't perform oh noooow I'm the one that's crazy or a jerk!”
