Ken Marino joins the cast of Scorsese’s HBO rock ‘n’ roll drama
With ’90s nostalgia in full swing, it makes sense that ’90s nostalgia for ’70s nostalgia would come back as well. Mad Men jumped forward to April 1970, Cindy Williams is on a book tour, and now Marty Scorsese is looking to explore the New York music scene in the late ’70s through the eyes of record executive Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale.
The rock ‘n’ roll drama is still untitled, but Ken Marino has signed on for a recurring role. Marino—best known as a cast member of The State and, more recently, his roles on Party Down, Eastbound & Down, Marry Me, Childrens Hospital, and a bunch of other comedies—will be taking on the role of Jackie Jervis, Fienstra’s foil from a rival record company. Annie Parisse, of The Following and The A.V .Club favorite As The World Turns, will also be joining the cast as “tough as nails” record company PR rep Andrea Zito.
The drama is being produced by Scorsese alongside Mick Jagger and Boardwalk Empire mastermind Terence Winter, so expect plenty of sex, drugs, sweeping camera movements, an authentically filthy New York City, and big dramatic scenes scored to very expensive rock ‘n’ roll tunes. HBO’s got the money, and Jagger’s cool, so don’t worry about them. The show is barely in pre-production, but let’s just assume it’s going to air on Sunday nights.
