Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck to depress people on the big screen as well

When we debuted the trailer for the upcoming documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck, people seemed as surprised by the sheer amount of behind-the-scenes footage included in the trailer as they were by the almost absurdly ironic Cobain voiceover about how happy he is. It definitely promised a depressing viewing experience rather than any kind of uplifting celebration of his life. Well, now you’ll be able to experience that sadness on a screen ten to twenty times the size of your television—if you live in one of three cities, that is. The Brett Morgan-directed film is getting a theatrical roll-out in New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

Prior to its May 4 premiere on HBO, the movie will hit screens in those cities beginning April 24, with specific locations and showtimes still to be determined. In addition, starting April 10, the film will screen in 72 countries, meaning that it now qualifies for a potential Oscar nomination. Fans will then be able to experience all that despair over and over again when the film is released on DVD and Blu-ray in November. Basically, get ready for a whole year to wallow in despondency, just like the guy at the end of the bar who’s been wearing flannel since grunge was cool the first time.
