Lady Gaga will also star in, generate publicity for Machete Kills
It's been several weeks since any announcement of a wink-wink casting addition to Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills, perhaps leaving some to believe he'd finally run out of distractions and gotten down to the dry, boring mechanics of making his ultraviolent movie about Danny Trejo killing everybody. But rest assured, there's still some creative spark there, at least when it comes to inventing reasons for sites like this one to write about his movie every week—particularly if those sites feel slightly uncomfortable posting shots of Spy Kids' Alexa Vega in a bikini, and instead just link to them. Today Rodriguez revealed that Lady Gaga has joined the cast as La Chameleón, a character named for the way she seamlessly blends into the background and never, ever causes you to say, "Hey look, it's Lady Gaga."
Rodriguez teased the role with the below promo image, saying of Gaga's performance, "She kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!" which is a level of enthusiasm Rodriguez reserves for only the most deserving of actors, films, and breakfasts. Anyway, in what is rapidly becoming some sort of TMZ version of Cannonball Run, Gaga joins a previously announced ensemble of tabloid-favorite celebrities like Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen, and—judging by the way the last couple of days have been going—hopefully leaving enough room for Kristen Stewart.
