Matty Matheson: what can’t he do? He began his career as a chef, which led to him hosting Viceland cooking shows. He’s co-hosted a podcast, launched a clothing line, owned a farm, created restaurants, written cookbooks, and serves as a star, producer, and culinary consultant for The Bear. Now we can add “musician” to his long list of accomplishments. On Tuesday, he announced the formation of his new hardcore band Pig Pen alongside Wade MacNeil of Alexisonfire, guitarist Daniel Romano, drummer Ian Ski Romano, and Tommy Major on bass.
Matheson, who serves as the group’s vocalist, describes the origin story of Pig Pen thusly: “A FEW OLD FRIENDS GOT TOGETHER A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND WROTE AND RECORDED 10 SONGS OVER 2 DAYS. WE JUST WANTED TO HANGOUT AND SEE WHAT’S UP.” He shared this on Instagram along with a snippet of the band playing one of their songs and the announcement of the band’s first live show at Sneaky Dee’s in Toronto on April 25. “Just when you thought I couldn’t possibly join ANOTHER band. WE GO AND START PIG PEN,” MacNeil posted on his own Instagram.
