Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed to guarantee more pleasure with second season

This is probably bad news for Tatiana Maslany's Paula, who will have a fresh season of hell to live through—but great news for fans of the Apple streaming show.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed to guarantee more pleasure with second season

Great news for fans of maximum pleasure—as long as that pleasure involves watching Tatiana Maslany get ridiculously stressed out, leastways: Deadline reports today that Apple TV has just granted a second season to Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, the David J. Rosen-created, David Gordon Green-produced series that sees Maslany go increasingly nuts as a mom who gets herself sucked into a complicated blackmail plot.

Viewers of the series—which aired its initial run back in May—will know that it ended on something of a cliffhanger, ensuring that Maslany’s Paula will only get herself sucked deeper into a conspiracy that kicked off when she started employing the services of a cam artist to process her messed-up life, only to see someone apparently kidnap him mid-session. As we noted in our review of the series, the ensuing chaos creates “a show that employs the lost TV arts of tempo and rhythm, with propulsive episodes that never overstay their welcome.” Now, they’ll get a chance to overstay that welcome all over again, with Apple handing down the renewal notice on Wednesday afternoon.

Rosen—who’s spent the last several years ensconced in the streaming TV ecosystem, working on shows like Apple’s own Sugar and Prime’s sprawling, overly ambitious spy series Citadel—issued a statement today about the renewal, writing that, “We are delighted to continue the story of MPG and deeply grateful to Apple and our incredible cast and crew. This is all pretty amazing for a show whose title came from a spam email.”
