Mike Myers reminds people they might someday have to live in a world with Austin Powers 4

Fresh off dragging the character back to life for a cellphone commercial, Myers says Austin Powers 4 is especially focused on Dr. Evil.

Mike Myers reminds people they might someday have to live in a world with Austin Powers 4

We’ll say this for Mike Myers: He enjoys being Austin Powers character Dr. Evil more than anyone else on Earth that you might care to name. (And given some of the Halloween parties we attended back in the 1990s, that was some stiff, bald cap-wearing, Lorne Michaels-impersonating competition.) Myers does, after all, keep bringing the character back, 24 years after the last Austin Powers movie, either for talk show appearances or commercials for car companies and cell phone concerns that really want to grab the “nostalgic Austin Powers fan” demographic. (And don’t seem to mind that Myers seems completely incapable of squeezing laughs out of the character these days, at least in the context of a phone commercial.) Now, Myers has issued an ominous warning to the masses: Austin Powers 4 is still coming, and it’ll be going heavy on Dr. Evil when it does.

Myers—who hasn’t had a major comedy project since his bizarre Netflix series The Pentaverate back in 2022—was giving an interview to The Hollywood Insiders‘ Hawk Koch when the topic of AP4 (which he’s been trying to make, in one form or another, for decades) came up. Myers revealed that he’s working out material for the film, and that “It’s more from Dr. Evil’s point of view, so far.”

And, look, we get it: Myers is 63 at this point; we’re imagining it’s a lot easier, these days, to think like the vicious bastard who sits in a chair and makes fun of everybody all the time than to embody the swinging, cheerful sex maniac. (Also, psychotic mil—uh, billionaires—who destroy the world from their boardrooms can’t help but feel a little more relevant and front-of-mind than happy do-gooders who save the world through extended silhouette sight-gags.)

Of course, it’s worth noting that nobody besides Myers (and, we guess, the Verizon corporation, Rob Lowe, Mindy Sterling, and Seth Green) are necessarily fully onboard for any of this just yet; no studio is attached to Austin Powers 4, which so far seems to exist, out in the real world, largely as a thing Mike Myers says “Yes” about when asked if it’s happening. (Unlike, say, Shrek 5, which is fully completed, and will see Myers reprise one of his other most famous roles starting in June of 2027.)
