The new feature from writer/director Andrey Zvyagintsev opens in select theaters on November 20.

France introduces an awards contender in Minotaur trailer

As the film festival season continues to roll on, those of us at home can get a new glimpse of Minotaur, the film that has already earned a place on France’s shortlist for Academy Award consideration. From the first trailer that we see this morning, it’s still a bit difficult to get much of a grasp on too much of the film’s action, but we do see the steady, well-crafted cinematography that we might expect from writer/director Andrey Zvyagintsev, whose already got two Academy Award nominations for Best International Feature to his name. 

Here’s what else we do know for sure. Minotaur premiered earlier this year at Cannes, where it won the Grand Prix. It’s since screened at TIFF and Telluride and will have its New York premiere at the 64th annual NYFF on October 3. An official synopsis for Minotaur reads: 

Russia, 2022. When Gleb, a successful company director, finds himself under siege from mounting corporate pressures and an increasingly unstable world, the collapse of his carefully ordered life accelerates toward violence.

Minotaur stars Dmitriy Mazurov, Iris Lebedeva, Boris Kudrin, Yuriy Zavalnyouk, Varvara Zmykova, and Vladimir Friedman, and opens in select theaters on November 20.
