Mr. Mercedes series now in development, per Stephen King custom

When you wander into your favorite bookstore, there’s often that moment where you turn the corner and find that seemingly every book in your sightline is written by Stephen King. Eventually, this might also be the case on your cable menu, as yet another adaption of the author’s work is forthcoming from Sonar Entertainment, which is developing the 2014 novel Mr. Mercedes into a limited series.

Mr. Mercedes focuses on a psychopath who kills people en masse by driving his car into large crowds. David E. Kelley (The Practice, Boston Legal) has signed on to write the series, and the directing reins will go to Jack Bender, a Lost veteran who also has worked on CBS’s Under The Dome, which is itself a King adaptation.

Mr. Mercedes is the latest in a host of development projects based on King’s writing that includes everything from multi-film versions of It and The Stand to series based on the 2003 short story The Things They Left Behind and his 2011 novel 11/22/63. No more can you escape King by leaving the bookstore. Your best bet is to get with the blood-soaked program and seek out the most promising adaptations on TV or in the multiplex. (But you should probably wait for the reviews on that Gerald’s Game movie.)
