David Byrne shares withering music video from the Musk soundtrack

Though he probably could have just included “Psycho Killer” or “Life During Wartime” and called it a day, David Byrne has produced some new music for Alex Gibney’s epic documentary Musk. Teaming with composer Daniel Pemberton, the former Talking Head has debuted “Let Me Sell You A Dream.” The title alone should communicate the general feelings these musicians have toward Elon Musk. But if the title and lyrics (which include phrases like “My daddy used to tell me / tell me I was no good”) don’t drive the point home, there’s no misunderstanding the music video, which features the potential model for Iron Man donning the armor to vaporize the employees at Twitter.

Byrne’s no stranger to soundtrack work; a few years ago, he (and Mitski and Ryan Lott) received an Oscar nomination for “This Is A Life,” which came from the soundtrack to Everything Everywhere All At Once. That award ultimately went to “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, but perhaps “Let Me Sell You A Dream” can get Byrne back in the Dolby Theater. Someone has to compete against Taylor Swift’s Toy Story song, after all.

Musk opens in theaters in New York and Los Angeles tomorrow, and opens nationwide on October 16.
