News from A.V. Club HQ
Some rumors have been swirling around about us online, so we wanted to step out of our fortified subterranean bunker to clear them up. First, the bad news: Starting next week, we will mostly excise local content from the New York edition of the paper. The Onion and the national part of The A.V. Club will remain in print, but our local content will be limited to event previews. We will also retire newyork.avclub.com (and its Twitter feed) Wednesday night.
It's a big and unfortunate loss for us editorially—City Editor Andy Battaglia and his assistant, Paul Caine, have been doing fine work there—but, and here's the good news (relatively speaking), it affects only one part of The A.V. Club. We will still be printed in eight cities (New York, D.C., Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Austin, and Denver/Boulder), and the national parts of The A.V. Club—in the paper and at avclub.com—won't be affected.
We're tremendously sad to lose Andy in particular as a staff member—he's been with us since 2001—but we hope he and Paul will continue to contribute to The A.V. Club.
That's all there is to report. We appreciate your concern—now we hope Twitter can get back to talking about Justin Bieber.
