Nick Offerman calls out Ben Shapiro's homophobia, cultural illiteracy

“Holy shit, that’s crazy,” Offerman finally responded after being subjected to several minutes’ worth of Shapiro calling his character “gay Ron Swanson” and misidentifying several elements of the acclaimed HBO series. Offerman continued by mocking the multi-level wrongness of Shapiro’s take, noting, “That’s the most Ben Shapiro I’ve ever seen, and there’s a very good reason for that. I mean, I don’t know what to say. I’m embarrassed for his reading comprehension. I think he got eight things wrong in his recap, besides his rampant homophobia.”

Offerman also hurled another right-wing internet figure under the bus, continuing, “That’s like a Joe Rogan clip or something that’s just so dumb and so wrong,” while adding that it’s upsetting that such bloviating buffoons currently carry so much influence in the current media landscape. As for his own social media interactions, Offerman says he doesn’t engage as a rule, largely because he’s too busy reading environmental poetry on the radio. 

For Offerman, currently up for two more Emmys for his work on Death By Lightning and Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Shapiro’s insecure grade school bigotry was nothing new. Referencing another time Shapiro petulantly took issue with Offerman’s outspoken feminism, the actor and sometime stand-up told Fragaso, “I wrote a song that I was performing on tour and I would preface it by saying, ‘I was going to write a joke about this, but Ben Shapiro questioned my masculinity and I can’t write a better joke than that.'” 

So the terminally online are now forced to pick their fighter: A talented woodworker/actor/comic/lover of all women, or that little creep who accidentally admitted he’s never brought a woman physical pleasure.
