Another week, another Nintendo showcase. Nintendo of America has announced it will be holding an Indie World Showcase on Thursday, August 7 at 9 a.m. ET/ 6 a.m. PT.
The announcement leaves much to be desired in the way of details, only sharing that interested viewers can expect a roughly 15-minute showcase “of new announcements and updates on indie games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.” Given how nebulous the term “indie” is, truly anything but a new mainline entry in one of Nintendo’s cornerstone series isn’t out of the question.
This comes exactly a week after Nintendo held its Partner showcase where the publisher announced new games including but not limited to Once Upon A Kamatari, the action RPG The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (which gave anyone who’s heard of Philadelphia a lot to work with), a Plants vs. Zombies remake, a new Octopath Traveler series entry, a new Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors game, and more.
What was noticeably missing was any word on Hollow Knight: Silksong, much to the Internet’s chagrin, if the Silksong subreddit’s response to the showcase was any indication. There was also not even a whisper of FromSoftware’s The DuskBloods. While anything coming out of FromSoftware probably doesn’t meet the definition for “indie” (but who knows, again, it’s a particularly vague marketing term!), Hollow Knight: Silksong is (again) not outside the realm of possibility. And considering that the Nintendo Switch 1 was lauded for its library of smaller games, the showcase might hold a few interesting or surprising announcements.
We’ll have to wait and see what Nintendo has in store until the showcase goes live at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT on Thursday, August 7. It can be viewed on YouTube and Twitch.
