Noah Hawley recruits a bunch of heavy hitters to help Rob Mac play Far Cry

Gleeson has, of course, been a regular presence on the small screen for a while at this point, most recently with Amazon’s just-canceled Spider-Noir. He’ll be joined in the anthology series by Leigh, a veteran of Hawley’s Fargo, plus Knights Of The Seven Kingdoms co-star Sam Spruell, Jamie Demetriou, and Hawley’s old Legion buddy Hamish Linklater. Together, they’ll help Mac and Hawley tell a story about… Well, actually, we’re not entirely sure on that point.

After all, a big part of the appeal of Ubisoft’s Far Cry games is that they don’t really stick to one setting, or even reality; the game franchise has had installments set in prehistoric times, exotic locales, and the far future; its only real guiding principle is that there’ll probably be guys standing around a base somewhere, waiting for you to shoot them with bullets pulled from a pouch you made by skinning a decent-sized portion of the local wildlife. Certainly, FX hasn’t said anything about where Mac and Hawley are aiming with the show’s first installment: All the network will confirm about the series is that it “will retain Far Cry’s signature standalone storytelling format,” jumping to a new cast and story every season. Which is old hat for Hawley at this point—even if the anthology treatment might be a little more alien to Mac, who’s right in the middle of running the 18th season straight of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia with the same Gang of degenerates attached.
