Nobody Wants This creator agrees to disagree with Adam Brody's call for a free Palestine

Last month, Nobody Wants This Star Adam Brody went on the record saying that he feels Israel’s military actions in Gaza constitute a genocide, that he believes in a free Palestine, and that there can be new political policies that stop the “situation” from being “as awful as it is.” Now, series creator Erin Foster has weighed in, saying that she disagrees with him, but she’s cool with it. “You know, it’s complicated,” Foster tells Amanda Hirsch on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, via Entertainment Weekly. “I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing. While I love Adam, I also disagree with him. And that’s okay.”

Foster opts not to really get into the weeds of what parts of Brody’s commentary she disagrees with, but it’s worth pointing out that disagreeing with the notion that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza would also be a disagreement with the findings of the United Nations. Foster instead focuses on wanting to provide good representation for Jewish fans of Nobody Wants This, saying, “I think that as the creator of the show, all I can say is that I want our Jewish fans to know that I see you and I hear you and I understand how you feel. And the show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism.” She continues, “That is why I made this show. It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person, and sitting here right now at this time in the world where there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.” (Foster converted to Judaism in 2019 when she married music executive Simon Tikhman; Brody is also Jewish.) Still, Foster is happy to agree to disagree, saying at the end of the clip, “Everyone is entitled to a different opinion than me. I can just tell you what I created this show for, what the intention of the show is.”
