Nominees for WGA TV awards include Mr. Robot, Kimmy Schmidt, and Better Call Saul
The Writers Guild Awards may not be as high-profile as the Oscars or Emmys, but they’re at least as trustworthy and meaningful as those awards are. After all, they’re spearheaded by writers, the single most under-appreciated, under-paid, and under-deified group in the entire entertainment industry (possibly the world), so you know a WGA award really means something. Today, thanks to Deadline, we have the WGA’s nominees for its annual TV awards, and as you might expect coming from writers, virtually all of the picks are perfect and equally deserving of recognition. Truly, all writers are the real winners here!
As for the actual nominees, though, the Best Drama Series category is made up of The Americans, Better call Saul, Game Of Thrones, and surprise summer hit Mr. Robot, while Broad City, Silicon Valley, Transparent, Veep, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt each got a Best Comedy Series nomination. As foreshadowed by those nominees, the Best New Series category looks like it’ll be a real battle, with Better Call Saul, Bloodline, The Last Man On Earth, Mr. Robot, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt getting nods.
Most of the nominations can be seen below, and the full list (including TV news and radio nominees) can be found over at Deadline. The winners will be announced on February 13.
