North Of North's season 2 trailer promises more warm laughs in the Arctic cold

Fans of quirky small town comedies with a distinct voice can look forward to the return of Netflix’s North Of North. Starring True Detective: Night Country‘s engaging Anna Lambe as Siaja, a newly single mother in the frigid Canadian Arctic community of Ice Cove, the winning sitcom from the CBC and the Aboriginal People’s Television Network (APTV) found a home on Netflix with its blend of comedy, female empowerment, sometimes sobering cultural insight, and small-town wackiness. As The A.V. Club‘s Mary Kate Carr said of the first season’s deft blend of light and dark, “Throughout it all, North Of North stays sunny, and Ice Cove proves a pretty delightful place to be.”

In the season 2 trailer, Lambe’s Siaja, following her decision to leave her traditional marriage to the town’s insensitive golden boy, continues her quest for an independent identity and a new love life, both complicated by a sparse population and old traditions. (And the fact that she’s sleeping in a storage room.) Within her awakening modern sensibilities and equally strong ties to her heritage and family, Siaja would make a fine best pal for Rutherford Falls‘ Reagan, as she navigates her tiny town’s scant opportunities (for career advancement and romantic prospects), motherhood, and the occasional calamitous snowmobile trek through the surrounding tundra.

Also starring Maika Harper, Braeden Clarke, Zorga Qaunaq, Bailey Poching, Jay Ryan, Nutaaq Doreen Simmonds, and Mary Lynn Rajskub, North Of North returns to Netflix on November 5.
