One defendant in the Slenderman stabbing pleads guilty
As reported by the NBC affiliate in Madison, Wisconsin, one of the defendants in the so-called “Slenderman stabbing,” 15-year-old Anissa Weier, has pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide. The court accepted her plea, and now Weier’s case will move to a “second phase,” during which a jury will determine whether or not she’s guilty because of “mental disease or defect.” As it stands now, Weier is facing 25 years in prison plus another 10 years of “extended supervision,” but that could change depending on what happens in that next phase of the trial.
Weier’s story was told in the HBO documentary Beware The Slenderman, which covered the aftermath of Weier and her friend Morgan Geyser attempting to kill one of their classmates in hopes of pleasing the fictional internet monster called the Slenderman. You can see a video of Weier’s court appearance here.
