Patti Harrison is the (screaming) new face of The Onion's InfoWars takeover

If you haven’t been keeping up with The Onion‘s takeover of former Alex Jones property InfoWars, you’ve missed what we can only describe as a whole heaping buttload of lore over the summer—including the eventual reveal that host/creative director Tim Heidecker decided he had to die so that he could ensure that the show’s version of Jones was properly suffering in hell, and/or so that he could stop doing his throat-obliterating Jones impression all the time. Today, parent company Global Tetrahedron rolled out a teaser for the new version of its flagship InfoWars show, including the reveal that comedy superstar Patti Harrison was now one of the new faces of the network, as it attempts to move away from specifically making fun of one notably crappy dude.

Specifically, Harrison is starring in new streaming series Nerve Center, alongside comedian David Brown, probably best known to wider audiences for his performance in the first season of Prime Video’s Jury Duty. The pair play a duo of self-described “thought leaders,” in a pretty clear move to get away from parodying Jones specifically, and instead take fire at a whole ecosystem of apparently guileless online grifters who are happy to platform any bad idea that comes along with a little bit of money attached. (An intention Onion CEO Ben Collins talked with us about when we interviewed him about the InfoWars push earlier this year.) The upshot is a trailer that has exactly what you’d want from “Patti Harrison making fun of idiots on the internet,” i.e., her character “Morgan Kerrigan” bouncing between screaming a lot and authoritatively telling her audience “If you are seeing this, you have brain damage.”

As noted in an interview on Thursday with IndieWire, Nerve Center also shows the new InfoWars happily poaching even more creators from the Adult Swim ecosystem; the series is being directed by Alan Resnick, who’s made a whole host of online and broadcast shorts exploring our basic inability to understand anything about our hellish modern existences—but who will always be “Unedited Footage Of A Bear‘s Alan Resnick” to us. In the interview, Resnick noted that the goal of the series is to be “a distillation of what being on the internet feels like. It’s what all content is like: it’s just people talking, and everyone likes to hear themselves talk because everyone deserves to have a platform. Because all ideas are valid. There are no wrong ideas; these guys just believe everything that every guest says.”

Nerve Center debuts on the InfoWars YouTube channel on October 15.
