One of the few famous people who’d resisted the siren’s call of lip sync battles on TheTonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was President Barack Obama, though that didn’t appear to be due to an objection to Fallon taking over as host. The President had, after all, slow-jammed the news with Fallon back on Late Night, so presumably he’d just been busy over the last two years with affairs of state. But President Obama rectified that last night, when he hung out with Fallon for the duration of the episode to talk about his presidency over a slow groove from The Roots.
Fallon thanks Obama for “stimulating growth in the public and private sectors,” and getting legislation in through “the back door,” a joke the President responds to with just a raised brow. President Obama drops several bon mots, like “Orange is not the new black” in reference to being succeeded in the White House by a carotene-packed Donald Trump. The humor doesn’t rise to the level of his White House Correspondents’ Dinner performance, but that’s probably just because here he has to rely on the writers who came up with things like “Drinko.” The President then sums up his time in office thusly: “Climate change is real, health care is affordable, and love is love.”
