Prince releases his song about Baltimore, will stream his “Rally 4 Peace” tonight on Tidal
Recently, we reported that Prince was not only planning to release a song dedicated to the people of Baltimore, but that he was also going to visit the city for a special “Rally 4 Peace” that would, hopefully, unite its citizens in mutual appreciate for Prince. Now, on the day of his Rally 4 Peace, Prince has descended from his purple spaceship or whatever and announced that all of us—not just the people living in Baltimore—will be able to enjoy his sexually charged (and socially conscious) guitar work tonight.
As reported by Stereogum, Tidal will be hosting a totally free hour-long stream from Prince’s concert. The stream will begin at 8 p.m. on Tidal.com, and the site will have a donate button which you can use to give money to The Baltimore Justice Fund, an organization that pledges to “end racial discrimination, create schools that are welcoming and safe, reduce the impact of drug addiction, and eliminate police brutality in Baltimore.” Tidal will also be matching any donations made through the site. Of course, a more cynical reporter might point out Tidal’s recent troubles (if that’s what they are) and suggest that this is very tasteless attempt from the company to build up some goodwill, but let’s try not to think about that and just enjoy some funky Prince tunes.
Speaking of funky Prince tunes, he has also posted his Baltimore song—dubbed Baltimore, appropriately—on Soundcloud. Rolling Stone has some information on the recording process, but you can listen to the song yourself in the embed below.
We’re not sure, but we have a good feeling that he’ll play this one tonight.
