Following the Friday night killshot that put down CBS’ The Equalizer, Queen Latifah addressed her grieving public on Instagram. Across 74 episodes, the series saw Latifah play vigilante Robyn McCall, an update of Robert McCall of the original ’80s Equalizer TV show. Though it ran for nearly as many episodes as the original and operated concurrently with a Denzel Washington-led film series of the same name, CBS determined that two Equalizers was one too many.

For Latifah, however, the show “blew past every dream we had for it,” calling its five-season run “surreal.” Latifah did not use her Instagram post to encourage fans to write their local streamer services about reviving the series. Instead, she thanked her “ride-or-die” faithful for sticking with the series and hyped whatever project she has next. Latifah promises to “be back kicking ass in something new real soon.” Appropriately, Queen Latifah’s next projects include a biopic about Master P with Wendell Pierce in the lead and Ice Age 6, reprising her role as Ellie the wooly mammoth. CBS unceremoniously dumped The Equalizer on Friday, without doing it the honor of a last episode or the rarely discussed but clearly desired crossover event Equalizer X Equalizer.
