Robin Williams’ bike collection is being auctioned for charity

It’s been over two years since Robin Williams died, a passing that robbed us of not merely a comedic titan, but a genuinely warm human being who dug deep to share humor, pathos, humility, and quiet compassion. But thanks to his family, his legacy of giving is living on through a special charity auction fundraiser. Mashable is reporting that Williams’ family has helped organize an auction of the late entertainer’s bicycle collection.

A life-long avid cyclist, Williams collected over 80 bicycles, which can be viewed and bid upon over at paddle8.com. Expected to generate over $200,000, proceeds from the auction are being donated to two organizations that Williams was invested in: the Challenged Athletes Foundation and the Christopher And Dana Reeve Foundation. In a statement, Williams’ family explained the decision to put his personal collection up for auction. “We hope these bikes will bring their new owners as much joy as riding them, and helping these causes, always brought him.”

In addition to the auction, paddle8 has posted an essay and photographs that document Williams’ long history with cycling and humanitarian causes, and a touching video tribute by Conan O’Brien. The auction is open until October 25.
