Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers series is a well-worn feature on the internet, providing giggles at the expense of its films. It points out their various flaws and plot holes, while also voicing the aspects of a movie that people enjoyed. Plus, there are usually lots of jokes about characters’ names. It’s a source of comedy, but is so frequent in updates and reliable in quality that it’s rarely mentioned here.
However, when Honest Trailers decided to tackle Deadpool, it did something special. Ryan Reynolds, in character as the fourth-wall-breaking Merc With A Mouth, shows up to add to the mockery of his own film as well as engage the narrator in some cross talk. It’s a cool extension of the character and plays well with Deadpool’s self-aware persona, while also pointing out some flaws within the film. The video touts the film’s success (both narratively and financially) and makes several points to remind viewers of the atrocity that is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. All this and they manage to work in the term “turbo boner,” so there’s that.
