Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson working on his very own NBC sitcom
Heralding a possible day when Lorne Michaels will have to hire another black person to prevent breaking Jay Pharoah, Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson has partnered with producer Michaels to write and star in his own sitcom for NBC. The single-camera comedy would star Thompson as not only a New York guy who moves to the suburbs, but also as a married guy forced to shack up with his in-laws and their extended family. This commingling of two well-worn sitcom premises into one is, of course, part of NBC's recent commitment to only doing "big, breakout ideas that are incredibly unique," as most shows would have picked either the suburbs thing or the crazy in-laws thing. Thompson is currently explaining to Michaels that, look, he can't play every character.
