Sigourney Weaver confirmed to return for Avatar sequels, presumably as some sort of fish

Last month, Sigourney Weaver told Vulture that she would be appearing in the next three Avatar sequels, despite [and here we discuss plot details of a movie that you are voluntarily reading sequel information about] her character having died in the first film, and the fact that no one necessarily needs three new Avatar movies. Now it’s official: Weaver will be back, according to a statement from director James Cameron. And as Weaver hinted—and as dictated by logic, even in a world of blue, ponytail-sex-having cat people—she’ll be playing someone else.

“Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films,” Cameron said, thus stopping short of just flat out saying that Sigourney Weaver will be a fish, with her character’s death at the Na’vi’s mystical tree router thing connecting at last with Cameron’s reign as Emperor of the Sea and his dominion over everything in it. (Weaver also previously said that her character would “transform somewhat” across each of these three, simultaneously shot follow-ups, suggesting that perhaps she’s a robot fish.) Whatever the actual nature of her new Avatar role, Cameron is correct that this time it will be more challenging this time for Weaver not to ruin a take by laughing.
