Sony inks Jeopardy!, Wheel Of Fortune streaming deals while fighting CBS

The wheel of fortune has spun well for Hulu and Peacock while continuing to serve up strife for CBS. For the first time ever, cord-cutters will be able to watch in-season episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune the day after their respective broadcast premieres. Today, Sony announced new, next-day streaming deals with Hulu (including Hulu on Disney+) and Peacock for both shows, per The Hollywood Reporter. Previously, only the shows’ back catalogs were available for playing along on your couch.

Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune are two of the most successful game shows in television history, and we look forward to giving fans the best possible streaming access to our shows this fall,” Sony Pictures Television chairman Keith Le Goy said in a statement.

These linear TV stalwarts making the jump to streaming will likely serve as yet another blow to the format—specifically to CBS, in this case. Sony is actively fighting the network in court over the future of both shows. There’s been a lot of back and forth between the two companies over the past few months, but essentially, Sony sued CBS for allegedly violating its syndication contract (a completely separate agreement from the new streaming deals) in October 2024, leading to a countersuit from CBS several weeks later. CBS briefly lost the right to distribute the shows this past April, but won it back last month for the remainder of the dispute. We won’t know the outcome of that trial for a while, but for now, Sony seems to have found another way to siphon its opponent’s viewership.
