Southland has also been canceled, despite not even being on NBC anymore
Proving that there is no limit to the shows that NBC will cancel, cop drama Southland will also end after five seasons, despite not being on NBC for four years. “TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland,” the network said in a statement, wisely not elaborating on how NBC executives, crazed with suicidal fervor, swept into their offices and killed the show they’d handed over to TNT in its second season for adoption. “All must be made clean for the Lord!” these NBC executives were understandably not quoted as screaming while drowning the modestly rated yet critically supported series about police navigating the tough streets of L.A. Of course, many involved were already expecting the end: Regina King, Ben McKenzie, and Shawn Hatosy all booked pilots recently, and there was some (quickly scrapped) talk about doing a TV movie to wrap things up. Instead the show dies secure in knowing that it served up reliably compelling drama far longer than anyone expected it to, and that NBC can’t hurt it anymore.
