CBS has announced that its long-delayed Star Trek: Discovery is continuing to add new crew members to its cast, despite the fact that it really does need to start filming at some point if we ever want to get these folks into space. First up on the changes to the show’s roster: Penny Dreadful’s Shazad Latif has had his role shifted, moving from a part as a Klingon commander to Starfleet officer Lt. Tyler. Latif’s old imperial bad guy duties will be filled instead by Jericho actor Kenneth Mitchell, accompanied by Claire McConnell and Damon Runyan as high-ranking members of the Klingon Empire.
Meanwhile, Discovery is tapping another beloved sci-fi franchise to stock its crew quarters, with news that Battlestar Galactica’s Rekha Sharma—who played surprisingly important political aide Tory Foster on the Syfy show—will play security officer Commander Landry on Discovery. Sharma joins a cast that includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, and Anthony Rapp, all of whom are presumably getting anxious to actually get this celestial road-trip on the road. Discovery will air its first episode (someday) on CBS, before moving to the network’s streaming service CBS All Access.
