“Stephen Colbert” returns to give The Werd on the Trump budget

It’s been two months since we last heard from “Stephen Colbert,” the bloviating conservative pundit who is in no way, shape, or form the piece of someone else’s intellectual property that Stephen Colbert played for nine years on The Colbert Report. The subject that pulled the character (plus Sting and Captain America’s shield) out of the woods? President Donald Trump’s proposed 2018 budget, a hack-and-slash job that couldn’t be more exaggeratedly right wing if it was performed with “Stephen Colbert”’s Lord Of The Rings prop.

Taking his alter ego—“a well-known grandma hugger”—to task, “Colbert” breaks down one of the budget’s most controversial items: The elimination of two community development block grants that help fund Meals On Wheels programs nationwide. The segment also covers the certifiably false statements from Office of Management and Budget Director (and guy whose St. Patrick’s Day outfit looks like a Bennigan’s threw up on him) Mick Mulvaney about after-school programs and the lack of benefits thereof. As it probably will for the remainder of the Trump administration, the targets of this Werd come down to the topic of The Colbert Report’s very first Word: truthiness.
