Stephen Graham is no slouch in the criminal department—as an actor, we should say—having portrayed such felonious heavyweights as Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire and Anthony “Tony Pro” Provenzano in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman to memorable, scene-devouring effect. Now, as Graham attends the Venice Film Festival to promote his latest film Bunker with co-stars Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, Variety has confirmed that the Adolescence and Peaky Blinders actor has joined the already-stupefyingly-good cast of Michael Mann’s crime saga sequel-prequel Heat 2. 

Regarding the role Graham is expected to play, several outlets have speculated since July that he’ll play master thief Neil McCauley opposite Christian Bale’s Vincent Hanna—roles previously held by Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, respectively, as if you didn’t already know that—with Leonardo DiCaprio also starring as Chris Shiherlis, originally portrayed by Val Kilmer. The sequel will also feature Adam Driver, Jason Clarke, and Odessa Young in unconfirmed roles, though wild speculation about Heat 2 is both healthy and necessary to keep one sharp *snaps* on the edge *snaps* where we gotta be, at least until a trailer drops at some point next year. While Variety notes that the “reported deal” has yet to close, Graham is expected to join the film’s production ahead of its July 2026 production date. The film is slated to shoot in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
