Boosted by an epic-pants rendition of New Order’s “Blue Monday”—chosen to complement the spectral blue flowers illuminating the woods outside Hawkins, Indiana, naturally—the trailer features another peculiarity-festooned adventure for the Hawkins Investigators Club, who face scary ghosts, eerie foliage, and a monster that sure looks like the Life Is Strange version of the Mödr creature from the 2017 Netflix horror film Relic.
Indeed, the H.I.C. are up against the Upside Down yet again in this animated spinoff of the recently concluded horror series, with its returning vocal cast—Brooklyn Davey Norstedt’s Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport’s Max, Luca Diaz’s Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams’ Lucas, Braxton Quinney’ Dustin, Ben Plessala’ Will, Brett Gipson’ Hopper, Odessa A’zion’s Nikki Baxer, Janeane Garofalo’s Anna Baxter, and Lou Diamond Phillips’s Daniel Fischer—navigating the in-between of its live-action bigger sibling’s larger events, often to diminishing effect.
