The Afghan Whigs have released their first new recorded song in five years
Swaggering, soulful rock group The Afghan Whigs have released their first music since reuniting late last year: a cover of 1970's "See And Don't See" from mercurial funk star Marie "Queenie" Lyons, whose under-appreciated, one-and-done recording career has made her a cult favorite over the years. It's not hard to see Greg Dulli and Co. identifying with Lyons and her never quite achieving the acclaim she deserved during her time, but it's probably more that Dulli just really wanted to sing the lyric, "If I ever face reality… I know that it will be the end of me," which fits right into his usual romantically tragic milieu. Anyway, you can download the single for free in exchange for your email here, then catch the band kicking off its upcoming reunion tour with a performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon next Tuesday, May 22.
