The Captain America sequel has found its female lead
After a shortlist of actresses that reportedly included Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay, Community’s Alison Brie, and Let’s Hope She Turns Out Exceptionally Pretty’s Imogen Gay Poots, the search for the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier has ended in: none of those. Instead, Deadline—who compiled that shortlist in the first place—says the part of Chris Evans’ new romantic interest now belongs to Emily VanCamp. In her first major film role, the Revenge star will make the leap to big-screen superhero franchises after years of starring mostly on TV and in small indies, ostensibly thanks to her demonstrating on Revenge that she can play along with whatever increasingly convoluted claptrap is going on around her and occasionally kick people. So in the end, it seems that the only thing to come out of all that “Alison Brie in Captain America” talk is this Photoshop. Still, we’re also not going to pretend as though that it isn’t all the Internet needs. That would demean us both.
