James Corden and Ruth Jones will reunite for The Choir

The days of Carpool Karaoke may be over, but that won’t stop James Corden from singing his heart out. Corden and his Gavin & Stacey co-creator and co-star, Ruth Jones, are teaming up again for a new Apple TV series titled The Choir. The streamer announced the eight-episode show, described as a “comedic drama” about family, friendship, love, and music, on Tuesday. Deadline first reported the series’ development in September 2025, a year after Corden and Jones reprised their roles as Neil “Smithy” Smith and Vanessa Shanessa “Nessa” Jenkins, respectively, for the finale of the British sitcom Gavin & Stacey. Gavin & Stacey: The Finale became the U.K.’s most-watched scripted show across all broadcasters and streamers since current records began in 2002. Whereas Corden and Jones played love interests on Gavin & Stacey, they’ll now be portraying siblings with a somewhat fraught relationship on The Choir. The actors will also serve as executive producers.

The synopsis reads:

“Brother and sister, Ben (Corden) and Lisa (Jones), haven’t seen each other for several years. Ben has been living abroad, while Lisa has carried on in their small English town where nothing ever happens. But when events take a sorry turn, Ben is forced to return to a life he never wanted, a town he never liked and a family from which he’s estranged. Can the unlikely healing of a rift with his big sister come in the form of a struggling local choir, and the ensemble who sing their hearts out each week?”

The cast of The Choir includes Tom Davis, Rosie Sheehy, Susan Brown, Jason Watkins, David Harewood, Alexandria Riley, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Tom Edden, Gary Lamont, Emily Lloyd-Saini, Stephen Leask, Luiis Rouf, Jo Foster, Evie Jones, and Farrah Abbassy. Hannah Waddingham, James McAvoy, and Jim Broadbent will also guest star. The Choir is currently in production and set to premiere on Apple TV in 2027, which means that Corden has already begun swapping the carpool lane for a musical ensemble.
