The CW is developing a show called Extreme Musical Chairs
Last November, NBC hoped to turn The Catch into its next Wipeout-style hit for the summer, traditionally the season where it’s too hot to do anything but watch people get hit in the face. Unfortunately its plans to transform the simple “backyard ball toss” into sadistic spectacle didn’t pan out, but that spirit lives on over at The CW, which Variety reports is planning to move beyond its current slate of series for teenaged girls and the middle-aged men who understand them, and branch out into more broadly appealing game shows with Extreme Musical Chairs. As the name suggests, the competition would take the longtime staple of poor children’s birthday parties and make it more EXXX-STREEEEEME by rigging the chairs with explosives. Or you know, something. Probably not explosives. The report says only that the show will be “a physically demanding competition with multiple rounds of elimination set in an indoor obstacle course,” which sounds exactly nothing like musical chairs, extreme or otherwise. But then, you can’t come right out and call your show Extreme Crotch-Hammering, at least not for a few more seasons.
