The fight for gay rights is “everybody’s issue” in the trailer for ABC’s When We Rise
Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour today, When We Rise creator Dustin Lance Black suggested that Donald Trump would enjoy the gay rights miniseries if he had a chance to watch it. That might be a little optimistic, considering that it includes an appearance from Rosie O’Donnell, but Black’s point was that the show is intended to have a universal message about the struggles we all face and how people can work together to overcome them. This trailer for the miniseries is certainly going for a hopeful message, with various people making passionate, powerful speeches about freedom and acceptance while staring down screaming bigots and slimy politicians, so maybe it actually will manage to get through to some real-life bigots.
The first episode of When We Rise was directed by Gus Van Sant, and it will premiere on ABC on February 27.
