Ambition is the word of the day in The Gentlemen season 2 trailer

On Friday, it was reported that Meghan Markle was being eyed for a role in the third season of Netflix’s The Gentlemen upon her and Prince Harry’s return to the United Kingdom. At that point, a third season of the Guy Ritchie series hadn’t yet been officially announced, so that was still received mostly as a rumor (and one that was just as quickly squashed). While we don’t know anything more about the future of Markle’s acting career this morning, we do know that there is a third season of The Gentlemen in store, so perhaps this time next year it’ll be the Duchess of Sussex’s face in a trailer next to Theo James.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Along with the confirmation that The Gentlemen would return for a third outing, Netflix also debuted the full trailer for the series’ second season. The word of the day seems to be ambition, both with Eddie (James) in the trailer and with Ritchie’s comments in the press release. “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight,” says the series creator. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”

An official synopsis for the second season reads:

It’s been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound.  Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well…

There’s also a cheeky logline for the third season, reading just:

Your guess is as good as mine.

The Gentlemen returns to Netflix on September 3.
