The Godzilla Remix Project proves every song is better with some Godzilla
The brainchild of LA comedian Joe McAdam, the absurd corner of the Internet known as The Godzilla Remix Project posits that there is nothing—no sitcom theme, jukebox anthem, or pop culture talking point—that can’t be improved by Godzilla sounds. McAdam says the project was inspired by his appearance on a friend’s podcast, where they discussed Green Day’s “Brain Stew (The Godzilla Remix)” from 1998’s Godzilla: The Album. Wondering why no one had thought to use the incredibly lazy device of just adding some Godzilla sounds to a song and calling it a remix before or since, McAdam posted “The Star Spangled Banner (Godzilla Remix)” and the Project was born.
Much like the giant monster himself, after stomping on a few dozen pop cultural landmarks The Godzilla Remix Project went into hibernation from October 2012 to May 2014. But inspired by the new movie, McAdam recently brought the Project back, telling The A.V. Club that it has “live[d] longer than any one note joke should. I’m not proud of what I’ve done, but I understand that it had to be done. It’s kind of like Vietnam for me.”
