The original was directed by The Good, The Bad, The Weird’s Kim Ji-woon and starred Oldboy’s Choi Min-sik as a serial killer and Lee Byung-hun as the cop who chases him. Driven by a desire for personal revenge (Min-sik’s character kills his fiancee in the opening scene), the cop quickly abandons his moral code in his quest to catch the killer, and their cat-and-mouse game escalates to near-operatic heights of creative sadism.
Ji-Woon’s film is not for the weak of heart (or stomach), making this a perfect project for the sickos behind the blender scene in You’re Next. The American remake of I Saw The Devil is being produced by Snoot Entertainment, the same company that produced The Guest and You’re Next, along with Dredd’s Adi Shankar and Liam Neeson revenge specialist Spencer Silna.
