Will Ferrell finally picks up the golf clubs in first The Hawk teaser

Another one of those golf shows gets closer to the green today as Netflix shares the first look at The Hawk, the Will Ferrell-led comedy that we’ve been hearing about since at least last year. Officially titled The Hawk, Ferrell stars as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins. He’s “a legend,” “an icon, a champion, an American hero,” some very dramatic voiceover tells us in the first teaser.

Netflix also confirmed a bit more of who’s who in the cast. Molly Shannon will play Stacy, Lonnie’s estranged wife. Jimmy Tatro will play their son Lance, also a pro-golfer, and Katelyn Tarver will play his fiancée Natalie, a social media influencer. Fortune Feimster appears as Sam, a caddie. Luke Wilson will play Lonnie’s rival Golden Fisk, which is a little funny given that his brother Owen is leading one of those other golf shows. Chris Parnell will play Anton, a PGA Tour board member, and David Hornsby plays Stacy’s new man Radford. A synopsis for the series reads, in part, that Lonnie is “2004’s number one golfer” and “struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet.”

Rian Johnson is among the producers for The Hawk, as are Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, Andrew Guest and the PGA Tour. The series will premiere on Netflix this summer.
