The fellas in full The Mosquito Bowl trailer have big dreams

The football players-turned-soldiers in The Mosquito Bowl trailer aren’t just doing this for themselves or for their countrymen; they’re doing it “for the unborn.” This is at least what a character played by Tom Francis says in the full-length trailer for Netflix’s new movie, one that the streamer has enough confidence in to actually give it a theatrical run. It’s certainly an interesting way to frame this part of history and a term that has certain political connotations, whether or not the filmmakers intended them in a movie about football and World War II. Anyway, as much as these soldiers care about the unborn, they also care about winning this war so they can go home and play for the New York Giants.

The official logline for The Mosquito Bowl reads:

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, four of America’s top college football stars set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines. As they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they’ll play in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history — a game that, for many, will be the last they ever play.

Francis stars alongside Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, and Ray Nicholson, with Brent Comer and Pat McAfee among the supporting cast. The Mosquito Bowl opens in theaters on October 30 and hits Netflix on November 25.
